ETERNITY - Eternity [USA hard psychedelic rock 1981] 2014 Got Kinda Lost Records GKL002

Originally recorded in 1979–’80, and released on a private label in 1981, many songs originate from an earlier period in the ’70s, giving the release an "out of time" quality.

Led by the confidant vocals of Wallace Stoneking and the "human–riff" creativity of Frank Monroe, Eternity created a groove–oriented, no frills brand of hard rock, capturing the flair of their heroes existing a decade prior–and within this set Wallace Stoneking tells of all the surreal interactions and experiences that colored their time together.

THE SUN - Tristan - A Rock Opera [UK xian folk, progressive 1971] 2013 Shadoks Music 156

The time is anytime, for this love story, a ship is dipping trough the sparkling blue sea, sitting on deck are Tristan and Ysolde. The music is electric folk with a progressive touch, male and female vocals, wide range of instruments, great percussion and first class guitar & organ parts. Some songs more acoustic, some electric. A well balanced mixture of an underground concept album which beats most other UK albums of the same kind. This album is a pure surprise.

The Sun

EFFERVESCENT ELEPHANTS - Something To Say [Italy psychedelic rock 1987] 2018 Onde Italiane ONIT LP 013

Italian psychedelic rock band from Alice Castello (Vercelli) formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1991.

One of the best bands in the neo-sixties european scene of the ’80.

The band operated in a vital moment of underground music, in which many bands at the same time to what was happening in The U.S.A., decided to go back to sonorities of ’60 to react to the excessive coldness of New Wave music, which used to rule in that period. It was a kind of backward full immersion in Garage-Punk and Psychedelic sonorities.

Remastered with two songs in addition to the first 7 "single !!

RAYBURN - Rayburn [USA progressive psychedelic rock 1972-77] 2009 Psych Of The South 4502

Rayburn's story begins back in 1970 in Little Rock, Arkansas, when keyboardist/singer Steve Stephens and guitarist/pianist Jimmy Roberts started their journey into searching for a more challenging form of rock music. They were soon joined by Mack Price on bass and vocals and Steve Courtney on drums and their innovative style caught the attention of Mega Records. However their contract was mysteriously canceled in 1972, many years later Steve would found out that his father had arranged a buy-out of the contract in orded his son to return back to their family business.Rayburn found the strength to move on, recording material and demos, before a second hit struck the band in 1974.Jimmy Roberts was diagnosed with cancer and died a few months later. The rest of the group never fully recovered, despite an unsuccesful attempt for a comeback in 1977.Over 30 years later, the three remaining members with the help of their families arranged a reunion concert, where the unreleased material from the 72'-77' was taped on CD by the Psych of the South label.

This is really some pretty elegant and decent example of early-70's Progressive Rock with strong amounts of psychedelic influences, akin to AFFINITY, CRESSIDA, FANTASY, GREENSLADE and other similar sounding British Prog groups of the period, giving the Americans a strong European identity. The material combines psychedelic melodies and jams with more sophisticated arrangements and a few intricate instrumentals, fronted by smooth guitar lines, elaborate organ washes and beautiful vocal harmonies.Quite often a definite influence from the music of THE BEATLES or early Psych/Art Rock acts such as PROCOL HARUM or THE MOODY BLUES is evident, though the rocking component in here is much stronger. Some mellow, orchestral parts with relaxed vocal sections recall the first steps of KING CRIMSON, like on the melancholic ''Said, I love only you'' or the following ''Righteous man'', while there are even some pretty complex pieces included in the album, like the three-part ''Your mind'' (or you should call it different versions of the same track), with its unusual combination of psychedelic vocals and quirky, jazzy electric textures. Some light symphonic tones are also revealed in some piano and organ moves, but the majority of the album flows in an artistic Psychedelic Rock vein, having a pretty delicate balance between clean vocals and prog-leaning instrumental parts.

While ''Rayburn'' is not exactly a lost gem of the 70's, eventually coming on surface, its sophisticated musical content along the lines of the aforementioned British combos is sure to please all fans of Proto-Prog and Psychedelic Prog at a certain deegree.Well-crafted pieces with both melodic and captivating themes. Recommended.

THE NOMADS - DEMOLICION! Live At El Sol, Madrid [Sweden garage rock 2015] Ghost Highway Recordings GHR-123

Based in Stockholm, the Nomads have stood out from other garage rock revivalists because of the intensity of their performances and the wide range of their influences, which extend beyond the usual '60s bands to encompass '70s punk, heavy metal, rockabilly, and blues. Their first release was a crude remake of the Sonics' "Psycho"; the band pressed 500 copies of this self-financed single in 1981 but had to discard 50 copies because of defects. They followed this with another single, a blistering rendition of "Night Time" by the Strangeloves, and received wider recognition with their first mini-album, Where the Wolf Bane Blooms. In 1984, they conducted their first European tour and garnered attention in the United States for their Outburst album. Despite successful attempts to broaden their sound, such as using horns on a recording of Jeff Conolly's "She Pays the Rent" and a trashy synthesizer on the Suicide-influenced "My Deadly Game," they have not managed to gain more than a small cult. Brutal sound in this live.

THE PLAYN JAYN - Friday The 13th (Live At The Marquee) [UK freak beat 1984] A&M Records JAYN 13

Monster freak-beat live band, great songs and captured perfectly on this album. High quality sound.

HAPPY END - Happy End [Japan psychedelic, folk, rock 1970] 2002 Avex Io, URC IOCD-40020

''Great debut album by this Japan Hippie folk rock band. Many reviews use to label them as a nippon CSN&Y version, and even the fact is clear, i would say i find this quite unfair.. These guys really had his own personality, all the compositions are superb, the work with Japanese-language armony vocals is really remarkable, and sure some pioner to other folk rock bands around the island. Every track is a winner, i especially like the mix of the soft vocals armonies with extended fuzz guitar parts that is present here and there around the whole thing.''

RICHARD SOUTAR - Episodes [Canada psychedelic folk rock fuzz 1978] 2014 Void Records VOID 55

A surprisingly good, and highly obscure album. Posibbly self-produced affair that he recorded in NYC in 1978. Most of the tracks are solidly semi-commercial in their orientation, and the song writing is very catchy and entertaining. Soutar has a rather fair voice, and his vocals are quite refined. On some cuts, he duets and/or harmonizes with back-up flautist Elyse Clark. Her input, both vocally and instrumentally, is on par with the high overall quality of the rest of the music found here. The majority of the tracks on side one are rather high energy, and somewhat hard, while those on side two are comparatively softer and more folk flavored. But despite its inherent musical strength, this would still probably have flown under the radar of most underground collectors if it weren't for the liberal yet tasteful use of fuzz guitar. This gives it an element of garage that would never be noticed otherwise.

THE GOLDEN CUPS - Live Album - Recorded Live at the Hibiya Concert Hall [Japan hard psychedelic 1971] 2004 Capitol Records TOCT-25837

"The Golden Cups formed in Yokohama in 1966. Singer and founder Dave Hirao had played in an earlier combo called the Sphinx. Joining him was Eddie Ban on lead guitar, Kennith Ito on guitar and vocals, Louis Kabe on bass and Mamaru Manu on drums. Kenneth Ito had grown up in Hawaii and his English vocals gave them an edge over most other Japanese acts of the time. Initially calling themselves the Group and I, they renamed themselves after the Golden Cup nightclub near the Honmoku army base when they became the house band there. An appearance on the Young 720 TV show gave them national exposure and led to a contract with Capitol. Their recordings vary greatly, with lesser tracks ranging from sacharrine ballads to unspectacular versions of popular soul songs, and later on to sludgy blues covers. Still, almost every 45 and lp release has something to recommend it and a few are really superb. Hiwa Mata Noboru is the b-side to their first 45, Jezebel. Their second 45 Love Is My Life has it all - fuzz, screams, and incredible bass runs by Kabe. I recommend the flip, Do You Know I Love You (written by Ito and Ban) to real fans of the Japanese pop sound, but others may want to pass on it. No other ‘group sounds’ recording comes close to matching their next 45, This Bad Girl for pure garage sound. It’s probably their very best. From their first album comes their take on Hey Joe, surely one of the best versions of this song ever cut. The band takes it at an incredibly fast speed, with more amazing bass playing from Kabe, piercing fuzz leads, good vocals and a full three minutes of feedback laden freak-out during the middle of the song! The madness continues with Happening at 3 O'Clock A.M, where a speeded-up Vox Wah Wah ad segues into a psychedelic spaghetti-western style trip. It’s a later single that’s also on their second LP. Like many Japanese productions of the period these are all in stereo, and the band makes good use of it…"

BILL HILL - Free Advice [USA psychedelic rock 1983] private pressing, FA-101383

Rare private Psych Guitar out of Illinois 1983 with very low press of only a couple hundred.

Side One is straight forward psychedelic melodic rock with double-tracked guitar feedback and icy keyboards, consistently good. The vocals have a cool underground vibe throughout. Side Two has more variety with some of the best songs. The industrial “This Is The Machine Age”, the haunting vocals and dirge-like melodies in “In Control” and the slow burning blazing guitar rocker “The Gold And Glittering Sea”.

THE RISING STORM - Second Wind [USA garage, rock 1999] Arf! Arf! AA-083

In the spring of 1967, six prep school students from Andover, Massachusetts recorded Calm Before..., cited today as one of the true pinnacles of '60s garage rock with original copies now fetching over $4000 on the collectors market. In 1999, all six original members have regrouped and come back strong with nine new striking originals, haunting remakes of Love's "Signed D.C." and Them's "Don't Look Back," plus additional bonus live tracks culled from their 1981 and 1992 reunions shows.

Produced by Arf Arf's Erik Lindgren and Boston legend Andy Paley (whose 1972 rocker "Love Starvation" is covered here), Second Wind recaptures the magic and mood of their original prophetic vision.

ERIC - Eric [USA pschedelic rock 1970] 2018 Soft Estate Records SE-003

In the late 1960s, amidst ubiquitous national protest over the Vietnam War and racial injustice, a high school rock band — comprised of both black and white musicians — took the stage and became the voice of a generation for their small Midwest town of Marion, Ohio. Originally released as a limited pressing in 1970, ERIC's only studio album stands out as a totally unique sonic experience — While recorded on 4-track tape with sparse instrumentation, it still manages to sound ornate — A cosmic and echoing expression of youthful passion propelled by the precocious songwriting and guitar talent of frontman Willie Creagh (now Phoenix) who, to this day, continues to perform to crowds of dedicated local fans.

Eric are considered one of the rarest and most sought-after private press records among serious collectors.

UNITED STATES OF EXISTENCE - The Psychedelic Yesterdays Of Tomorrow [USA garage, psychedelic 1978-87] 2020 Guerssen GUESS159

Sixteen roller coaster rides of authentic neo-psychedelic pop! The Psychedelic Yesterdays of Tomorrow is the first ever vinyl retrospective of pioneering '80s psych band United States of Existence. Includes their fab Introducing: the United States of Existence LP from 1986 (originally on Bam Caruso), plus essential single/compilation-only tracks and fantastic previously unreleased ones. United Sates of Existence were one of earliest neo-psychedelic groups from the US. Born in Baltimore in 1978 out of the ashes of prog-rock outfit Klangfarb, their goal was to reproduce the sound of their favorite '60s psych bands: Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes, Blues Magoos, Nazz, The Association... They consisted of Paul Rieger (guitar, bass, electric sitar), Bob Tiefenwerth (organ, electric harpsichord. piano), Dennis Davison of Jigsaw Seen fame (lead vocals, acoustic guitar, Theremin), and Gary Schwartz on drums and harmony vocals. The group used vintage instruments and antiquated recording techniques to fully embrace the sounds of the first psychedelic era (1967-68). They never got to play live, preferring to spend their time recording in their basement studio or going on record-buying binges at all the discount stores, searching for obscure psychedelic albums with weird names like Harumi, Phulph, Bohemian Vendetta... They were championed by Greg Shaw (Bomp!) who chose one of their first recordings, the killer Return To The Psychedelic, as the opening track for the seminal Battle Of The Garages LP compilation (1981). They also appeared in another famous compilation, The Rebel Kind (1983). "Anything Goes!", their first 45, saw the light in 1984, self-released on the band's own label, U.S. Fidelity Sounds, and featuring members of the Association on backing vocals. In 1986, they caught the attention of the Bam Caruso label from the UK, where they released their only album, Introducing: the United States of Existence, in 1986. The Psychedelic Yesterdays of Tomorrow compiles all the material released by United States of Existence, including their Bam Caruso album along with various single / compilation tracks, as well as a few previously unreleased tracks and alternate mixes. Includes color insert with detailed liner notes and rare photos. RIYL: Blues Magoos, Electric Prunes, Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Association, The Seeds, Dukes Of Stratosphear...

THE HALLMARKS - Paper Sky [USA garage, pop 1967] 2018 Numero Group NUM5067

When the Hallmarks auditioned, Tommy Falcone turned his back. Twenty bands arranged around the perimeter of the warehouse in Keansburg, New Jersey, in 1966, with Falcone seated in the center, pointing to each one in turn. The Hallmarks were easily the most ragtag gang in the room—with a microphone taped to a birdcage stand, a low end provided by a guitar strung with bass strings, and a mismatched collection of borrowed drum hardware—but Falcone couldn’t see it with his back turned, which was the point. When he finally turned around, Falcone signed them on the spot.

The Hallmarks had only been a band for a year at that point, forming around songwriter, guitarist, and singer Russ Scalzo, his brother Joe Scalzo on drums, cousin Tony Scalzo on rhythm guitar, neighbor Jim Bova on bass, and friend Rick Gager on lead guitar. “I wasn’t good enough to figure out anybody else’s songs so I’m gonna make my own,” said Russ.

Falcone knew the times were changing, clothes more colorful, even music stores switched from brass to mostly guitars and amps. Beatle bowl cuts and matching outfits gave way to long hair, mustaches, and bell bottoms, which was a problem for the Scalzos at Shore Regional High School.

Harassment from the school authorities over the Hallmarks’ hair got bad enough that Falcone drafted a flattering letter to the principal on official Cleopatra letterhead: “We have just put under contract the group known as the Hallmarks. I understand four of the five members attend your school, and would again like to ask your permission to allow these members to keep their hair as they presently do, for professional reasons. It seems that Shore Regional H.S. has a lot of talent to offer.”

But the hair helped when he met his future wife, the daughter of a telephone company party planner who booked the band on February 10, 1967, for a corporate gig. Russ and Gail had a rare connection, lovestruck in both an instant and five decades later. She wanted him in her life, he wanted her in his band.

Russ wanted to do for her what Falcone had done for him, working with his new girlfriend to build up her technique and her confidence, giving her the training to unlock her natural talents. Soon Gail was delivering a powerful vocal performance—the band’s showstopper. “We were doing a frat party one night at Monmouth College,” Tony recalled, “and those frat boys were down on their knees in front of her.”

Losses mounted. Tony Scalzo was drafted in 1967 right out of high school, shipping out to California to join the Navy Reserve. Losing Falcone hit the band even harder—but he’d taught Russ Scalzo well. Scalzo continued to record and tried to sell a single himself to Columbia, “Cellar Walls” b/w “Just Me and the Blue Jay,” but the labels passed and he grew increasingly frustrated.

A particularly bad drug trip—involving satanic chanting and a levitating woman—sent Bova to the brink of suicide, ready to throw himself off a bridge, and then brought him to Christ. In the 1970s, the Hallmarks changed their name first to Friends and then released three albums as Saved by Grace, transformed by Bova's salvation and sobriety into one of the earliest Christian rock groups in America.

Certainly the most psychedelic-sounding stuff McKay ever recorded!  Master tape sound.

THE REACTION - Shapes Of Things To Come [UK mod, freak-beat 1985-87] 2018 Bristol Archive Records ARC322CD

Bristol based The Reaction were formed in the mid 1980s greatly influenced by the music and dress of the 60s, a combination that appealed to many of the Mod Revivalists of the day. With the young Mods enthusiastic support, The Reaction were quickly riding high on a wave of popularity and independent record sales. Everyone that either heard the band or were lucky enough to see their live set, were left with no doubt the band were destined for a brighter future than many of their peers. Even though they managed to gain much coveted Radio 1 airplay from the likes of John Peel and Andy Kershaw, and the backing of the Waterloo Sunset Records, their popularity was never properly harnessed. Within three years they were gone, but not thankfully without leaving behind the tracks that are now available on this album.

For the many fans of 1960s music, we are sure this retrospective album by The Reaction will come as something of a surprise. Very rarely do you come across a band that has managed so successfully to recreate the unique electric 12 string sound of the 60s American West Coast. With seven original well crafted, self penned songs, and four cover versions once performed by the likes of The Yardbirds, The Creation, The Beatles and The Byrds, the new album ‘Shapes of Things To Come’ can sit very confidently along side any other album from that era.

ORFEUS - Lying To The Wall [USA psychedelic rock 1973] 2019 Void Records VOID61

First reissue of this super rare album with help from band member Eben Henson. Uriah Heep meets the southern rock genre in this terrific private pressing from Kentucky. The title cut is massive and should be a staple on all play lists!

WICKED LESTER - You Are Doomed [USA rock, punk rock 1981] 2012 Numero Group NUM702

No, not the first incarnation of Kiss, just three wasted kids from Cleveland, Ohio, infatuated with the new wave of british heavy metal. Kick-started in Cleveland in 1979, girls, drugs, sports, and jock rivalry fueled Wicked Lester's aggressive "fuck the draft" sound. Minted at Boddie in 1981, Wicked Lester's lone single paired "Here Comes My Girlfriend" with the lovesick, late-Pink Floyd moves of "Say Your Prayers," recorded on the same ominous day that John Hinckley Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan. We've added two unreleased tracks, thrown all four sides into a beautiful gatefold 7" sleeve, and added a couple thousand words about their near-meaningless existence.

VVAA - Psychedelic Sounds From The Young Blood, Beacon & Mother Labels, 1969-1974 [Psychedelic Rock, Hard, Pop] 2014 Guerssen GUESSCD051

Famous in collector circles for being the home of rare progressive/psych albums such as Salamander, Julian's Treatment or Moonkyte, Miki Dallon's group of labels also released many obscure 45s during the late '60s/early '70s. Here's a selection of the most psychedelic-sounding ones, plus some overlooked LP-only tracks. From mod-psych to hard-rock, from psychedelic pop to early glam, including the devastating hard-psych sounds of Taiconderoga (featuring a young, pre-Damned Brian James!), Small Faces mod-influenced sounds by Revolver, Moog psych/proto-glam by The Damned and much more. Features remastered sound and includes an insert with informative liner notes and pictures/memorabilia from the Miki Dallon archives. Other artists include: Shakane, Uzi & The Styles, Boots, Information, Derek Paul, Rubber Band, Jelly.

MOD FUN - Wardour Dreams [USA mod, garage, psychedelic 1985-86] 2021 Paisley Archive PA062

This collection of songs represents the bulk of studio recordings by "New Jersey's Original 80's Retro-mod band," who were among the most popular of the handful of east-cost acts in the early 80's retro-rock movement based in the "NYC cave-stomp" scene; which would eventually come to be known as the "underground garage" sound. Based around the club "The Dive," where MOD FUN gigged monthly, alongside many other gigs at CBGB, SNAFU, Firefly, DIRT and the Peppermint Lounge.

MOD FUN also ventured out to California very early in their career (1984) and absorbed the stylistic influences of the brand new "Paisley Underground" sound within their tight "UK psyche" compositions.  Many gigs at San Francisco's The Mab and Berkeley Square; LA's Madame Wongs and Cavern Club, as well as San Diego's Club Zu and Rock Palace.

"90 Wardour Street" (released in 1985) was their debut 12-inch and exhibits MOD FUN's flair for American Garage sounds slammed right up against their infatuation with UK Psyche-Mod-R&B material like The Creation, Syd's Pink Floyd, The Eyes, The Action, Zombies, Kinks and (even) Early Who.  You can't listen to these 8 original songs and not get hooked by the depth of the many classic influences in their sound ... 90 Wardour Street plays like a "case history" of 60's retro music...

For "Dorothy's Dream" the band dipped even further into the Californian "Paisley Underground," (after their 2 tours of that state,) and their immersion in the "American Indie" sound, including more influences like Big Star and The Nazz now sitting alongside their continued Anglophilic love of UK psyche and pop like The Move, Syd Barrett, Buzzcocks and their original initial inspiration The Jam.  By the time "...Dream" was recorded however it was even harder to pick out individual influences, as the band had jammed so many different retrofied pieces into their musical puzzle.

Also included in this CD collection are 5 "bonus" tracks — 3 songs originally intended to be on the "Dorothy's Dream" album, which ultimately weren't recorded and released on the vinyl LP in 1985.  Two of these tracks appear as demo recordings ("Plastic People" and "Sugarcube Boy,") and one as a live version ("Understand Me," recorded in California 10th, April 1985.)  Two more songs from that same gig appear here as well: "Movin' N Groovin'" from their debut "Wardour St.," and a live version of the B-side of their debut single "Happy Feeling"

MICHAEL YONKERS BAND - Lovely Gold [USA psychedelic, rock, folk 1977] 2010 Drag City DC428GZD-004

Recorded in 1977 on a four-channel "tube type" tape recorder that Michael built himself by combining parts of other machines, Lovely Gold wasn't released until now - a true crime for all the prior generations, because it is an exotic work of homespun brilliance, perhaps the most multi-faceted work de Yonkers. It was meant to be the fourth LP in a trilogy - and now it is.

THE KING BISCUIT ENTERTAINERS - Northwest Unrelased Masters, 1967- 70 [USA garage, hard, psychedelic 1967-70] 2015 Out-Sider OSR036

Featuring Ray Kennedy and Roger Huycke from legendary garage band The Wilde Knights (of "Beaver Patrol"/"Just Like Me" fame), King Biscuit Entertainers rocked the Northwest music scene between 1968 and 1971, building up a reputation as one of the better live bands from the Pacific Northwest ballroom circuit. In addition to releasing a bunch of 45s for several local labels, the band recorded a lot of stuff at their own state-of-the art home studio, material that has not seen the light of day until now. This retrospective features a selection from their previously unreleased tape archive plus rare 45 sides, 1967-1970, including the fantastic garage-jangle 45 they recorded under the Genesis name. Music ranges from British-influenced mod-psych to early hard rock with stunning guitar and vocals. The raw sound and production brings to mind similar bands like Brain Police. Remastered sound.

THE SKABBS - Idle Threat [USA new wave, punk 1977-78] 2012 Jackpot Records JPR020

A collection of never before issued recordings from 1977-78 Lawndale, California punks, The Skabbs. In tandem with the birth of punk, these music obsessed nerds, bored and listless at the end of the 70’s, became disenchanted with the increasingly plastic tendencies of modern music. The Skabbs concocted some truly outsider sounds, melding jagged Devo-esque rhythms with lightning-fast technical touches that predicted the Minutemen by a few years.

The album 'Injection' contains (unreleased) live recordings and demos (8 tracks, 1970), the legendary Beatnach concert (4 tracks, 1980) and two acoustic songs from 1996. THE LAST - Look Again [USA garage, jangle, power pop 1980] 2020 Backlash HA012-1, HA012-7

The lost album by seminal power-pop band The Last, part of the first wave of Los Angeles punk bands alongside X and the Go-Go's. The follow-up to their debut, 1979's L.A. Explosion !, Look Again was recorded in 1980 and shopped around to labels, but failed to land the band a deal.

Test pressings of the album have gone for over $ 800 on Discogs.

It's been restored fro the original master tapes and, according to keyboardist Vitus Mataré, "There are no new overdubs and zero digital trickery. Guitar and organ tracks were sent to the same model amplifiers Joe [Nolte] and I used live back in the day and re-recorded. These are the original performances given a proper mix.

NOAH - Brain Suck [USA hard psychedelic 1969] 2021 Guerssen, Galactic Archive GUESSCD064

Formed in the late 60s in Salem, Ohio, out of the ashes of two garage bands, the Markees and the Sound Barrier (of the legendary “Hey, Hey” 45 on Zounds), Noah consisted of Mark Scheuring (guitar & lead vocals), Larry Davis (drums), Paul Hess (bass & backup vocals) and Danny Hall (keyboards & backup vocals). In 1972 the band recorded in just two days a concept album titled “Brain Suck” at Cleveland Recording studios with engineer/producer Ken Hamann (of Grand Funk Railroad and James Gang fame).

Expanded to a double set including the SOUND BARRIER (pre-Noah) sought-after garage-psych 45s plus unreleased demos, ’67-71.

THE PAISLEYS -Behind The Cosmic Mind [USA psychedelic, rock 1969-80s] 1993 Cosmic Mind Records PR 001 CD

"For years, the buzz around the collector community was that this was a complete waste, and should be avoided. I came across a used copy for a bargain
(maybe it was even a gift, can't remember), and finally got to hear it for myself. I can certainly see what it is that pissed everybody off. A substantial
portion of this is disappointingly commercial, soft pop, with some vocal harmony and very mild psych influences. Roughly about half falls into this category.
The other half is true outtakes from the "Cosmic Mind at Play" LP. And don't let all the exotic titles fool you, most of these outtakes are just incomplete
edits of album tracks, e.g. "Cosmic Mind at Play" (not the complete LP track), and "Crashing Slashing Roar" (another alternate portion of the LP version of
"Cosmic Mind ..." with a different mix than that used in the version that appears on the LP). The clear cut winner on this whole thing is the alt. vers. of "Now",
which is one of the greatest heavy psych cuts ever recorded; this vers. is diff., but just as good.Totally inconsistent, to be sure. Not even a fold-out for a cover
card, and containing literally no info.

Addendum: I just listened to this again, and feel I may have a slightly better insight into what might be going on here. Firstly, this is entirely conjecture on my
part! There are literally no liner notes that accompany this release, other than a parenthesied "diff version" listed after two of the tracks. But judging from the
sound quality and style of material, here''s what I think is probably close:

1: This sounds very much like an unused track from the album sessions, and is not a re-titled album track.

2,3,5,7: These sound like circa mid-70's recordings, and may be a later band that one or more of the original members were part of. The music is semi-commercial rock in a boogie
bar-band vein, and featuring some good guitar with added effects. I can't help but notice that the track 5 title appears to be an answer to track 1B from the original album.
Track 2 appears to be a mis-spelling of the more accurate "Heavenly Dancer".

4,6,12: Are all alternate mixes from the tracks used on the LP. Every one of these has a heavier psychedelic emphasis and are superior to the released versions as far as I
can remember. My only critique might be a slight loss of fidelity due to the tapes being old at the time these were transferred.

8, 9, 10, 11: These are all post-1980 tracks, likely recorded by the (probable) lone band member who was responsible for this collection. Track 8 is about John Lennon, and sings
about his untimely death. These are all soft and gentle pop rock songs with noticeable 80's production work. I can just see the guy's long grey hair pulled back in a tight
ponytail, recording these in his basement with wife and maybe a friend or two. They're really not bad at all, just a far cry from my style of interest." Timeshifter

THE BOHEMIAN BEDROCKS (a.k.a. The Optic Nerve) - Bohemian Bedrocks [USA garage, psychedelic 1984] 2012 Screaming Apple SCALP 199

Recorded in 1984 in New York City, this wax captures the live vibe of Bobby Belfiore (formerly of The Purple Onion), Orin Portnoy (formerly of The OUTTA PLACE), Elan Portnoy (the FUZZTONES, the HEADLESS HORSEMEN) and Ira Elliot (the FUZZTONES, NADA SURF). A blend of dark, sizzling psych-punk, wylde garage-beat, ravin' r'n'b and jangly folk rock, reminiscent of the 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, Rolling Stones, EYES, Q65, BYRDS.

THE BITTER SEEDS - THE ROCK SHOP - State Of Your Mind [USA garage psychedelic 1966-68] 2015 Out-Sider OSR029

The Bitter Seeds were one of the pioneering bands from the early Monterey music scene. Led by flashy guitar player Leonard "Pooch" Paschini, they were active from 1966 to 1970, gigging regularly at such legendary venues as Bull's Eye Tavern, Longshoremen's Hall, The Matrix, and The Fillmore and sharing stages with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Iron Butterfly, and Steppenwolf. In 1967, The Bitter Seeds recorded their only 45, issued on Rowena Records as The Rock Shop to avoid confusion with The Seeds. State of Your Mind/Is That Your Halo is a brutal garage-psych double-sider. The following year the group recorded four studio tracks that have remained unreleased until now. These are perfect examples of the transition from R&B-garage to early psychedelic sounds that many San Francisco ballroom bands experienced at the time. An exciting find for any lover of lost West Coast psychedelic sounds.

TELEVISION PERSONALITIES - And Don't The Kids Just Love It [UK post-punk, new wave, psychedelic 1981] 2009 Fire Records SFIRE002CDE

"The first full-length release from the UK's Television Personalities was originally released in 1981. And Don't The Kids Just Love It is lo-fi, minimalist, and quirky pop, post-punk, psychedelia, and folk from one of the era's most idiosyncratic songwriters. Featuring such classic tracks as 'I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives' and 'A Picture of Dorian Gray,' this is one of the greatest and strangest debut records ever."

The previously unreleased album from one of the most enigmatic bands from the Texas psychedelic scene, Wolfgang. An unusual blend of '60s garage-punk, Texas psychedelia (think 13th Floor Elevators or Golden Dawn), The Seeds, The Misunderstood, late era Velvet Underground, '70s era Rolling Stones and '70s pre-punk swagger.

FINCHLEY BOYS - Everlasting Tributes [USA blues, psychedelic, rock 1972] 2016 Reaction Recordings REACTCD006 - Deluxe reissue

Although the original album has been bootlegged many times over the decades these pirated releases usually delivered poor sound quality. This, the first official, definitive, band-authorized CD/digital release for the Finchley's material was carefully restored from the original master tapes. Considerable time was then spent remastering the tracks to bring them up to modern day standards.

Deluxe DCD package features a second disc of bonus tracks, entitled 'Neverending Tributes', which includes a recently rediscovered trove of recordings from 1968-1969.
