Originally recorded in 1979–’80, and released on a private label in 1981, many songs originate from an earlier period in the ’70s, giving the release an "out of time" quality.

Led by the confidant vocals of Wallace Stoneking and the "human–riff" creativity of Frank Monroe, Eternity created a groove–oriented, no frills brand of hard rock, capturing the flair of their heroes existing a decade prior–and within this set Wallace Stoneking tells of all the surreal interactions and experiences that colored their time together.

The time is anytime, for this love story, a ship is dipping trough the sparkling blue sea, sitting on deck are Tristan and Ysolde. The music is electric folk with a progressive touch, male and female vocals, wide range of instruments, great percussion and first class guitar & organ parts. Some songs more acoustic, some electric. A well balanced mixture of an underground concept album which beats most other UK albums of the same kind. This album is a pure surprise.

Italian psychedelic rock band from Alice Castello (Vercelli) formed in 1985 and disbanded in 1991.

One of the best bands in the neo-sixties european scene of the ’80.

The band operated in a vital moment of underground music, in which many bands at the same time to what was happening in The U.S.A., decided to go back to sonorities of ’60 to react to the excessive coldness of New Wave music, which used to rule in that period. It was a kind of backward full immersion in Garage-Punk and Psychedelic sonorities.

RAYBURN - Rayburn [USA progressive psychedelic rock 1972-77] 2009 Psych Of The South 4502

 


Rayburn's story begins back in 1970 in Little Rock, Arkansas, when keyboardist/singer Steve Stephens and guitarist/pianist Jimmy Roberts started their journey into searching for a more challenging form of rock music.They were soon joined by Mack Price on bass and vocals and Steve Courtney on drums and their innovative style caught the attention of Mega Records.However their contract was mysteriously canceled in 1972, many years later Steve would found out that his father had arranged a buy-out of the contract in orded his son to return back to their family business.Rayburn found the strength to move on, recording material and demos, before a second hit struck the band in 1974.Jimmy Roberts was diagnosed with cancer and died a few months later.The rest of the group never fully recovered, despite an unsuccesful attempt for a comeback in 1977.Over 30 years later, the three remaining members with the help of their families arranged a reunion concert, where the unreleased material from the 72'-77' was taped on CD by the Psych of the South label.

This is really some pretty elegant and decent example of early-70's Progressive Rock with strong amounts of psychedelic influences, akin to AFFINITY, CRESSIDA, FANTASY, GREENSLADE and other similar sounding British Prog groups of the period, giving the Americans a strong European identity.The material combines psychedelic melodies and jams with more sophisticated arrangements and a few intricate instrumentals, fronted by smooth guitar lines, elaborate organ washes and beautiful vocal harmonies.Quite often a definite influence from the music of THE BEATLES or early Psych/Art Rock acts such as PROCOL HARUM or THE MOODY BLUES is evident, though the rocking component in here is much stronger.Some mellow, orchestral parts with relaxed vocal sections recall the first steps of KING CRIMSON, like on the melancholic ''Said, I love only you'' or the following ''Righteous man'', while there are even some pretty complex pieces included in the album, like the three-part ''Your mind'' (or you should call it different versions of the same track), with its unusual combination of psychedelic vocals and quirky, jazzy electric textures.Some light symphonic tones are also revealed in some piano and organ moves, but the majority of the album flows in an artistic Psychedelic Rock vein, having a pretty delicate balance between clean vocals and prog-leaning instrumental parts.

While ''Rayburn'' is not exactly a lost gem of the 70's, eventually coming on surface, its sophisticated musical content along the lines of the aforementioned British combos is sure to please all fans of Proto-Prog and Psychedelic Prog at a certain deegree.Well-crafted pieces with both melodic and captivating themes. Recommended.

Based in Stockholm, the Nomads have stood out from other garage rock revivalists because of the intensity of their performances and the wide range of their influences, which extend beyond the usual '60s bands to encompass '70s punk, heavy metal, rockabilly, and blues. Their first release was a crude remake of the Sonics' "Psycho"; the band pressed 500 copies of this self-financed single in 1981 but had to discard 50 copies because of defects. They followed this with another single, a blistering rendition of "Night Time" by the Strangeloves, and received wider recognition with their first mini-album, Where the Wolf Bane Blooms. In 1984, they conducted their first European tour and garnered attention in the United States for their Outburst album. Despite successful attempts to broaden their sound, such as using horns on a recording of Jeff Conolly's "She Pays the Rent" and a trashy synthesizer on the Suicide-influenced "My Deadly Game," they have not managed to gain more than a small cult. Brutal sound in this live.

''Great debut album by this Japan Hippie folk rock band. Many reviews use to label them as a nippon CSN&Y version, and even the fact is clear, i would say i find this quite unfair.. These guys really had his own personality, all the compositions are superb, the work with Japanese-language armony vocals is really remarkable, and sure some pioner to other folk rock bands around the island. Every track is a winner, i especially like the mix of the soft vocals armonies with extended fuzz guitar parts that is present here and there around the whole thing.''

Short-lived Greek band, formed in Athens in 1985.Carma's more recognizable figure was drummer Tolis Piperas, formerly of the Psych Rock group Tharsin Hri, while he brough along his brother Giorgos on vocals/guitar.The brothers came from the Thessalia region and the city of Trikala, while guitarist Christos Zervas hailed from Epirus.Takis Tsionas on bass completed the line-up and Carma came up with an independent vinyl production in 1985 with only the band's name as a title, produced by Giorgos Piperas.

A surprisingly good, and highly obscure album. Posibbly self-produced affair that he recorded in NYC in 1978. Most of the tracks are solidly semi-commercial in their orientation, and the song writing is very catchy and entertaining. Soutar has a rather fair voice, and his vocals are quite refined. On some cuts, he duets and/or harmonizes with back-up flautist Elyse Clark. Her input, both vocally and instrumentally, is on par with the high overall quality of the rest of the music found here. The majority of the tracks on side one are rather high energy, and somewhat hard, while those on side two are comparatively softer and more folk flavored. But despite its inherent musical strength, this would still probably have flown under the radar of most underground collectors if it weren't for the liberal yet tasteful use of fuzz guitar. This gives it an element of garage that would never be noticed otherwise.

"The Golden Cups formed in Yokohama in 1966. Singer and founder Dave Hirao had played in an earlier combo called the Sphinx. Joining him was Eddie Ban on lead guitar, Kennith Ito on guitar and vocals, Louis Kabe on bass and Mamaru Manu on drums. Kenneth Ito had grown up in Hawaii and his English vocals gave them an edge over most other Japanese acts of the time. Initially calling themselves the Group and I, they renamed themselves after the Golden Cup nightclub near the Honmoku army base when they became the house band there. An appearance on the Young 720 TV show gave them national exposure and led to a contract with Capitol. Their recordings vary greatly, with lesser tracks ranging from sacharrine ballads to unspectacular versions of popular soul songs, and later on to sludgy blues covers. Still, almost every 45 and lp release has something to recommend it and a few are really superb. Hiwa Mata Noboru is the b-side to their first 45, Jezebel. Their second 45 Love Is My Life has it all - fuzz, screams, and incredible bass runs by Kabe. I recommend the flip, Do You Know I Love You (written by Ito and Ban) to real fans of the Japanese pop sound, but others may want to pass on it. No other ‘group sounds’ recording comes close to matching their next 45, This Bad Girl for pure garage sound. It’s probably their very best. From their first album comes their take on Hey Joe, surely one of the best versions of this song ever cut. The band takes it at an incredibly fast speed, with more amazing bass playing from Kabe, piercing fuzz leads, good vocals and a full three minutes of feedback laden freak-out during the middle of the song! The madness continues with Happening at 3 O'Clock A.M, where a speeded-up Vox Wah Wah ad segues into a psychedelic spaghetti-western style trip. It’s a later single that’s also on their second LP. Like many Japanese productions of the period these are all in stereo, and the band makes good use of it…"

Rare private Psych Guitar out of Illinois 1983 with very low press of only a couple hundred.

Side One is straight forward psychedelic melodic rock with double-tracked guitar feedback and icy keyboards, consistently good. The vocals have a cool underground vibe throughout. Side Two has more variety with some of the best songs. The industrial “This Is The Machine Age”, the haunting vocals and dirge-like melodies in “In Control” and the slow burning blazing guitar rocker “The Gold And Glittering Sea”.

In the spring of 1967, six prep school students from Andover, Massachusetts recorded Calm Before..., cited today as one of the true pinnacles of '60s garage rock with original copies now fetching over $4000 on the collectors market. In 1999, all six original members have regrouped and come back strong with nine new striking originals, haunting remakes of Love's "Signed D.C." and Them's "Don't Look Back," plus additional bonus live tracks culled from their 1981 and 1992 reunions shows.

Produced by Arf Arf's Erik Lindgren and Boston legend Andy Paley (whose 1972 rocker "Love Starvation" is covered here), Second Wind recaptures the magic and mood of their original prophetic vision.

ERIC - Eric [USA pschedelic rock 1970] 2018 Soft Estate Records SE-003

 

In the late 1960s, amidst ubiquitous national protest over the Vietnam War and racial injustice, a high school rock band — comprised of both black and white musicians — took the stage and became the voice of a generation for their small Midwest town of Marion, Ohio. Originally released as a limited pressing in 1970, ERIC's only studio album stands out as a totally unique sonic experience — While recorded on 4-track tape with sparse instrumentation, it still manages to sound ornate — A cosmic and echoing expression of youthful passion propelled by the precocious songwriting and guitar talent of frontman Willie Creagh (now Phoenix) who, to this day, continues to perform to crowds of dedicated local fans.

Eric are considered one of the rarest and most sought-after private press records among serious collectors.

Sixteen roller coaster rides of authentic neo-psychedelic pop! The Psychedelic Yesterdays of Tomorrow is the first ever vinyl retrospective of pioneering '80s psych band United States of Existence. Includes their fab Introducing: the United States of Existence LP from 1986 (originally on Bam Caruso), plus essential single/compilation-only tracks and fantastic previously unreleased ones. United Sates of Existence were one of earliest neo-psychedelic groups from the US. Born in Baltimore in 1978 out of the ashes of prog-rock outfit Klangfarb, their goal was to reproduce the sound of their favorite '60s psych bands: Strawberry Alarm Clock, Electric Prunes, Blues Magoos, Nazz, The Association... They consisted of Paul Rieger (guitar, bass, electric sitar), Bob Tiefenwerth (organ, electric harpsichord. piano), Dennis Davison of Jigsaw Seen fame (lead vocals, acoustic guitar, Theremin), and Gary Schwartz on drums and harmony vocals. The group used vintage instruments and antiquated recording techniques to fully embrace the sounds of the first psychedelic era (1967-68). They never got to play live, preferring to spend their time recording in their basement studio or going on record-buying binges at all the discount stores, searching for obscure psychedelic albums with weird names like Harumi, Phulph, Bohemian Vendetta... They were championed by Greg Shaw (Bomp!) who chose one of their first recordings, the killer Return To The Psychedelic, as the opening track for the seminal Battle Of The Garages LP compilation (1981). They also appeared in another famous compilation, The Rebel Kind (1983). "Anything Goes!", their first 45, saw the light in 1984, self-released on the band's own label, U.S. Fidelity Sounds, and featuring members of the Association on backing vocals. In 1986, they caught the attention of the Bam Caruso label from the UK, where they released their only album, Introducing: the United States of Existence, in 1986. The Psychedelic Yesterdays of Tomorrow compiles all the material released by United States of Existence, including their Bam Caruso album along with various single / compilation tracks, as well as a few previously unreleased tracks and alternate mixes. When the Hallmarks auditioned, Tommy Falcone turned his back. Twenty bands arranged around the perimeter of the warehouse in Keansburg, New Jersey, in 1966, with Falcone seated in the center, pointing to each one in turn. The Hallmarks were easily the most ragtag gang in the room—with a microphone taped to a birdcage stand, a low end provided by a guitar strung with bass strings, and a mismatched collection of borrowed drum hardware—but Falcone couldn’t see it with his back turned, which was the point. When he finally turned around, Falcone signed them on the spot.

The Hallmarks had only been a band for a year at that point, forming around songwriter, guitarist, and singer Russ Scalzo, his brother Joe Scalzo on drums, cousin Tony Scalzo on rhythm guitar, neighbor Jim Bova on bass, and friend Rick Gager on lead guitar. “I wasn’t good enough to figure out anybody else’s songs so I’m gonna make my own,” said Russ.

Falcone knew the times were changing, clothes more colorful, even music stores switched from brass to mostly guitars and amps. Beatle bowl cuts and matching outfits gave way to long hair, mustaches, and bell bottoms, which was a problem for the Scalzos at Shore Regional High School.

Harassment from the school authorities over the Hallmarks’ hair got bad enough that Falcone drafted a flattering letter to the principal on official Cleopatra letterhead: “We have just put under contract the group known as the Hallmarks. I understand four of the five members attend your school, and would again like to ask your permission to allow these members to keep their hair as they presently do, for professional reasons. It seems that Shore Regional H.S. has a lot of talent to offer.”

But the hair helped when he met his future wife, the daughter of a telephone company party planner who booked the band on February 10, 1967, for a corporate gig. Russ and Gail had a rare connection, lovestruck in both an instant and five decades later. She wanted him in her life, he wanted her in his band.

Russ wanted to do for her what Falcone had done for him, working with his new girlfriend to build up her technique and her confidence, giving her the training to unlock her natural talents. Soon Gail was delivering a powerful vocal performance—the band’s showstopper. “We were doing a frat party one night at Monmouth College,” Tony recalled, “and those frat boys were down on their knees in front of her.”

Losses mounted. Tony Scalzo was drafted in 1967 right out of high school, shipping out to California to join the Navy Reserve. Losing Falcone hit the band even harder—but he’d taught Russ Scalzo well. Scalzo continued to record and tried to sell a single himself to Columbia, “Cellar Walls” b/w “Just Me and the Blue Jay,” but the labels passed and he grew increasingly frustrated.

A particularly bad drug trip—involving satanic chanting and a levitating woman—sent Bova to the brink of suicide, ready to throw himself off a bridge, and then brought him to Christ. In the 1970s, the Hallmarks changed their name first to Friends and then released three albums as Saved by Grace, transformed by Bova's salvation and sobriety into one of the earliest Christian rock groups in America.

Produced by The Tokens, 1970's "Flying High with The Canaires"  featured twelve of the demos the band recorded during their 1965 American visit. Featuring largely original material penned by Garcia and bassist Raphael "Rapha" Izquiderdo Suarez, Beatles-styled rockers like 'Baby Don't Surprise Me' and 'So I'll Tell You Goodbye'.

Into You Take Two includes previously-unreleased tracks recorded in 1975-1979 by the same cast of musicians who recorded Into You, the legendary first McKay private album. Laid-back, rural psychedelic rock with dreamy Neil Young/Beatles-esque vocal harmonies, raw, fuzzed-out guitars and a druggy atmosphere. Certainly the most psychedelic-sounding stuff McKay ever recorded!  Master tape sound.
