MICHAEL YONKERS BAND - Lovely Gold [USA psychedelic, rock, folk 1977] 2010 Drag City DC428GZD-004

Recorded in 1977 on a four-channel "tube type" tape recorder that Michael built himself by combining parts of other machines, Lovely Gold wasn't released until now - a true crime for all the prior generations, because it is an exotic work of homespun brilliance, perhaps the most multi-faceted work de Yonkers. It was meant to be the fourth LP in a trilogy - and now it is.

THE KING BISCUIT ENTERTAINERS - Northwest Unrelased Masters, 1967- 70 [USA garage, hard, psychedelic 1967-70] 2015 Out-Sider OSR036

Featuring Ray Kennedy and Roger Huycke from legendary garage band The Wilde Knights (of "Beaver Patrol"/"Just Like Me" fame), King Biscuit Entertainers rocked the Northwest music scene between 1968 and 1971, building up a reputation as one of the better live bands from the Pacific Northwest ballroom circuit. In addition to releasing a bunch of 45s for several local labels, the band recorded a lot of stuff at their own state-of-the art home studio, material that has not seen the light of day until now. This retrospective features a selection from their previously unreleased tape archive plus rare 45 sides, 1967-1970, including the fantastic garage-jangle 45 they recorded under the Genesis name. Music ranges from British-influenced mod-psych to early hard rock with stunning guitar and vocals. The raw sound and production brings to mind similar bands like Brain Police. Remastered sound.

THE SKABBS - Idle Threat [USA new wave, punk 1977-78] 2012 Jackpot Records JPR020

A collection of never before issued recordings from 1977-78 Lawndale, California punks, The Skabbs. In tandem with the birth of punk, these music obsessed nerds, bored and listless at the end of the 70’s, became disenchanted with the increasingly plastic tendencies of modern music. The Skabbs concocted some truly outsider sounds, melding jagged Devo-esque rhythms with lightning-fast technical touches that predicted the Minutemen by a few years.

Q65 - Injection [Netherlands garage, rock 1970-1997] 2020 Pseudonym Records VP99.082

Q65 was one of The Netherlands 'most popular beat bands from the' 60s. After their glory years, that ended abruptly in January 1968 when singer Willem Bieler joined the army, the band reformed in the spring of 1970, with drummer Beer Klaasse of the legendary Group 1850 behind the drumkit. The album 'Injection' contains (unreleased) live recordings and demos (8 tracks, 1970), the legendary Beatnach concert (4 tracks, 1980) and two acoustic songs from 1996. Remastered from the original master tapes.

IVY GREEN - Ivy Green [Netherlands punk rock 1978] 2016 Pseudonym CDP-1132

Originally issued by WEA's short-lived subsidiary Pogo in 1978. Ivy Green's simple but charismatic rock and roll was raw and fast enough to propel them right into the vanguard of the fledgling punk rock movement of the day. Edition with remastered sound includes two bonus tracks. Highly recommended.

THE LAST - Look Again [USA garage, jangle, power pop 1980] 2020 Backlash HA012-1, HA012-7

The lost album by seminal power-pop band The Last, part of the first wave of Los Angeles punk bands alongside X and the Go-Go's. The follow-up to their debut, 1979's L.A. Explosion !, Look Again was recorded in 1980 and shopped around to labels, but failed to land the band a deal.

Test pressings of the album have gone for over $ 800 on Discogs.

It's been restored fro the original master tapes and, according to keyboardist Vitus Mataré, "There are no new overdubs and zero digital trickery. Guitar and organ tracks were sent to the same model amplifiers Joe [Nolte] and I used live back in the day and re-recorded. These are the original performances given a proper mix.

NOAH - Brain Suck [USA hard psychedelic 1969] 2021 Guerssen, Galactic Archive GUESSCD064

Formed in the late 60s in Salem, Ohio, out of the ashes of two garage bands, the Markees and the Sound Barrier (of the legendary “Hey, Hey” 45 on Zounds), Noah consisted of Mark Scheuring (guitar & lead vocals), Larry Davis (drums), Paul Hess (bass & backup vocals) and Danny Hall (keyboards & backup vocals). In 1972 the band recorded in just two days a concept album titled “Brain Suck” at Cleveland Recording studios with engineer/producer Ken Hamann (of Grand Funk Railroad and James Gang fame).

Expanded to a double set including the SOUND BARRIER (pre-Noah) sought-after garage-psych 45s plus unreleased demos, ’67-71.

THE PAISLEYS -Behind The Cosmic Mind [USA psychedelic, rock 1969-80s] 1993 Cosmic Mind Records PR 001 CD

"For years, the buzz around the collector community was that this was a complete waste, and should be avoided. I came across a used copy for a bargain
(maybe it was even a gift, can't remember), and finally got to hear it for myself. I can certainly see what it is that pissed everybody off. A substantial
portion of this is disappointingly commercial, soft pop, with some vocal harmony and very mild psych influences. Roughly about half falls into this category.
The other half is true outtakes from the "Cosmic Mind at Play" LP. And don't let all the exotic titles fool you, most of these outtakes are just incomplete
edits of album tracks, e.g. "Cosmic Mind at Play" (not the complete LP track), and "Crashing Slashing Roar" (another alternate portion of the LP version of
"Cosmic Mind ..." with a different mix than that used in the version that appears on the LP). The clear cut winner on this whole thing is the alt. vers. of "Now",
which is one of the greatest heavy psych cuts ever recorded; this vers. is diff., but just as good.Totally inconsistent, to be sure. Not even a fold-out for a cover
card, and containing literally no info.

Addendum: I just listened to this again, and feel I may have a slightly better insight into what might be going on here. Firstly, this is entirely conjecture on my
part! There are literally no liner notes that accompany this release, other than a parenthesied "diff version" listed after two of the tracks. But judging from the
sound quality and style of material, here''s what I think is probably close:

1: This sounds very much like an unused track from the album sessions, and is not a re-titled album track.

2,3,5,7: These sound like circa mid-70's recordings, and may be a later band that one or more of the original members were part of. The music is semi-commercial rock in a boogie
bar-band vein, and featuring some good guitar with added effects. I can't help but notice that the track 5 title appears to be an answer to track 1B from the original album.
Track 2 appears to be a mis-spelling of the more accurate "Heavenly Dancer".

4,6,12: Are all alternate mixes from the tracks used on the LP. Every one of these has a heavier psychedelic emphasis and are superior to the released versions as far as I
can remember. My only critique might be a slight loss of fidelity due to the tapes being old at the time these were transferred.

8, 9, 10, 11: These are all post-1980 tracks, likely recorded by the (probable) lone band member who was responsible for this collection. Track 8 is about John Lennon, and sings
about his untimely death. These are all soft and gentle pop rock songs with noticeable 80's production work. I can just see the guy's long grey hair pulled back in a tight
ponytail, recording these in his basement with wife and maybe a friend or two. They're really not bad at all, just a far cry from my style of interest." Timeshifter

THE BOHEMIAN BEDROCKS (a.k.a. The Optic Nerve) - Bohemian Bedrocks [USA garage, psychedelic 1984] 2012 Screaming Apple SCALP 199

Recorded in 1984 in New York City, this wax captures the live vibe of Bobby Belfiore (formerly of The Purple Onion), Orin Portnoy (formerly of The OUTTA PLACE), Elan Portnoy (the FUZZTONES, the HEADLESS HORSEMEN) and Ira Elliot (the FUZZTONES, NADA SURF). A blend of dark, sizzling psych-punk, wylde garage-beat, ravin' r'n'b and jangly folk rock, reminiscent of the 13TH FLOOR ELEVATORS, Rolling Stones, EYES, Q65, BYRDS.

Cleaned up and mastered, our attempt is to reveal the recordings Johnny felt worthy of keeping and to release only the best audio quality and performances that live up to his musical legacy. THE BITTER SEEDS - THE ROCK SHOP - State Of Your Mind [USA garage psychedelic 1966-68] 2015 Out-Sider OSR029

The Bitter Seeds were one of the pioneering bands from the early Monterey music scene. Led by flashy guitar player Leonard "Pooch" Paschini, they were active from 1966 to 1970, gigging regularly at such legendary venues as Bull's Eye Tavern, Longshoremen's Hall, The Matrix, and The Fillmore and sharing stages with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Iron Butterfly, and Steppenwolf. In 1967, The Bitter Seeds recorded their only 45, issued on Rowena Records as The Rock Shop to avoid confusion with The Seeds. State of Your Mind/Is That Your Halo is a brutal garage-psych double-sider. The following year the group recorded four studio tracks that have remained unreleased until now. These are perfect examples of the transition from R&B-garage to early psychedelic sounds that many San Francisco ballroom bands experienced at the time. An exciting find for any lover of lost West Coast psychedelic sounds.

TELEVISION PERSONALITIES - And Don't The Kids Just Love It [UK post-punk, new wave, psychedelic 1981] 2009 Fire Records SFIRE002CDE

"The first full-length release from the UK's Television Personalities was originally released in 1981. And Don't The Kids Just Love It is lo-fi, minimalist, and quirky pop, post-punk, psychedelia, and folk from one of the era's most idiosyncratic songwriters. Featuring such classic tracks as 'I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives' and 'A Picture of Dorian Gray,' this is one of the greatest and strangest debut records ever."

WOLFGANG - Eliminate Hate [USA garage, psychedelic rock 1970] 2017 Out-Sider OSR057

The previously unreleased album from one of the most enigmatic bands from the Texas psychedelic scene, Wolfgang. An unusual blend of '60s garage-punk, Texas psychedelia (think 13th Floor Elevators or Golden Dawn), The Seeds, The Misunderstood, late era Velvet Underground, '70s era Rolling Stones and '70s pre-punk swagger.

FINCHLEY BOYS - Everlasting Tributes [USA blues, psychedelic, rock 1972] 2016 Reaction Recordings REACTCD006 - Deluxe reissue

Although the original album has been bootlegged many times over the decades these pirated releases usually delivered poor sound quality. This, the first official, definitive, band-authorized CD/digital release for the Finchley's material was carefully restored from the original master tapes. Considerable time was then spent remastering the tracks to bring them up to modern day standards.

Deluxe DCD package features a second disc of bonus tracks, entitled 'Neverending Tributes', which includes a recently rediscovered trove of recordings from 1968-1969.
