KUBLA KHAN - Mystic Crystal Revolution [USA rock 1970] 1995 Collectables COL-0654

Kubla Khan's complete output, a generally hard-rocking and intense body of work ranging from Santana-like guitar pyrotechnics to power-chord dominated anthems like "Revolution," and the occasional psychedelic or folkish digressions. Chris Gerniottis's singing and rhythm guitar work are always interesting, even where the material is predictable, and when the group is really on target, Jeff Burke's lead guitar and Mike Gregory's organ add their own layers of invention and intensity. Not every song is worthwhile, but the stuff that is more than justifies the purchase of this CD. In contrast to many garage band releases in this series from Collectables, the work by Kubla Khan is professionally recorded and requires no apologies or explanations for its quality.
